Sustainability
At Tomeco, we cherish the ecological environment of our specialty tomatoes. We strongly believe that respecting nature is the key to growing the highest quality tomatoes. Read more about our various sustainability projects here.

Energy and CO2 for growth
CO₂ is often seen as a problem substance, but it is actually indispensable for our plants. Through photosynthesis, they convert CO₂ into oxygen and use it as a nutrient for their growth. To optimally support this process, we bring carefully purified CO₂ into the greenhouse. From industrial waste streams or from our own combined heat and power (CHP). The CHP is a powerful gas engine that not only generates electricity, but also produces heat and CO₂ at the same time. We use that heat to heat our greenhouses and the released CO₂ goes directly to the plants. In this way, we carefully use everything that is released for strong, healthy cultivation.
At certain locations, we share the efficiently generated heat with surrounding companies, thereby jointly contributing to a sustainable future.

Automaatje, our automatic transport to Coöperatie Hoogstraten
Our packaging center is located right on the site of Coöperatie Hoogstraten, near the central distribution point from where our tomatoes go to customers. Previously, our team brought the packed tomatoes personally to Coöperatie Hoogstraten, but we love smart solutions.
This is how our 'Automaatje' was born, an automatic transport system that loads and unloads itself, powered by solar energy. Once the Vending Machine is fully loaded, it finds its way via transponders to the center of Coöperatie Hoogstraten, where it unloads itself neatly onto the buffer runway. Our Vending Machine drives back and forth all day, making our transport process not only more efficient, but also more sustainable!
Emission-free heat generation
The E-boiler makes it possible to generate heat emission-free by using electricity instead of gas. When the power comes from renewable sources, the heating is completely CO₂ free. This makes the e-Boiler an efficient and sustainable solution that reduces the ecological footprint while covering the energy needs of horticulture.
This is how we contribute to a greener future without sacrificing the quality of our crops.

Biologically integrated crops
Our biologically integrated crops combine sustainable cultivation methods with ecological principles. Natural processes are used to optimize the ecosystem within the greenhouse. We do this, among other things, by using beneficial insects, physical control techniques, crop rotation and the use of biological pesticides.
The goal is to always maintain a biological balance so that plant growth remains optimal. This reduces the need for chemical agents, which we only have as a stick behind the door. In short, we always grow with respect for nature.
Fresh mini watermelon from greenhouse to table
Our mini watermelons are grown sustainably with the utmost care and attention. At every step of the cultivation process, we take the environment into account. By using controlled watering, we ensure that each plant receives just the right amount of water, minimizing water waste. This not only means that our watermelons are delicious and juicy, but also that they have been grown with respect for our natural resources. Opt for our mini watermelons and enjoy a refreshing, environmentally-friendly snack!
Did you know that the labels are simply compostable? Easy, isn't it?
